Definition

Galvanized pipe, also known as galvanized steel pipe, refers to steel pipes that have a layer of zinc coated on the surface of the steel pipe. This process is designed to improve the corrosion resistance of the steel pipe, thereby extending its service life.


Classification

Galvanized pipes are mainly divided into the following two categories according to different manufacturing processes:


Hot-dip galvanized pipes:

Manufacturing process: First, pickle the steel pipe to remove the iron oxide on the surface of the steel pipe, then wash it in an ammonium chloride or zinc chloride aqueous solution tank, and finally send it to the hot dip plating tank. The steel pipe substrate undergoes complex physical and chemical reactions with the molten plating solution to form a corrosion-resistant and tightly structured zinc-iron alloy layer. The alloy layer is integrated with the pure zinc layer and the steel pipe substrate.

Features: Hot-dip galvanized pipes have the advantages of uniform coating, strong adhesion, and long service life. Its coating thickness is large and can provide long-term corrosion protection.


Electro-galvanized pipes (cold-galvanized pipes):

Manufacturing process: A layer of zinc coating is formed on the surface of the steel pipe by electroplating. The zinc layer and the steel pipe substrate are independently layered, the zinc layer is thin, and it is simply attached to the steel pipe substrate.

Features: The electro-galvanized pipe has a small amount of zinc plating and relatively poor corrosion resistance. Because its zinc layer is thin and easy to fall off, its service life is relatively short.
